String Details
Our A and D strings are wound with a special precision rolled stainless steel flat wire. Meanwhile, the G and C strings are wound with tungsten, providing a deep, warm and focused sound with great power and personality. All four strings are offered in tensions soft, medium and strong.
Our solid steel core cello range is completed by an E string. This string is wound using precision rolled aluminium.
Larsen Soloist Edition
Complementing the Original range and purpose designed for enhanced projection, focus and volume particularly at the higher harmonics as demanded by the professional solo player.
String Details
Our Soloist Edition is offered in soft, medium and strong for A and D and medium and strong for G all optimized slightly above the Original equivalents.
The strings are based on solid steel cores, different in properties and dimensions from their Original cello counterparts. The A and D wound with precision rolled stainless steel flat wire and the G with tungsten/flat wire.
Larsen Magnacore
The Perfected Set: An extremely well balanced set for the professional cellist offering a charismatic sound with an almost endless palette of colors.
We have added a lovely edge to the sound, nice and bright so that it carries but still with that characteristic Larsen roundness. These strings offer many sound shades, from bright to dark, combined with a new clarity and brilliance. While the D medium and strong have almost the same tension level, they differ in sound color. The medium delivers a rich depth to the instrument whilst the strong provides a brighter almost song-like clarity.
Magnacore G and C produce an incredibly warm and focused sound offering a wealth of overtones, tremendous volume and exceptional string response even when played in pianissimo. Playing-in time has been reduced to an absolute minimum to deliver outstanding string performance instantly.
The Magnacore Medium configuration offers a wonderfully sonorous and broad sound with a unique ease of playability which is particularly suited to cellos with a neutral to bright timbre. Our Strong variant is even more powerful, focused and direct. We can recommend Magnacore Strong for all set ups but in particular for the darker and deeper sounding instrument.

As a key element of the development process Larsen works with musicians, one on one, testing string prototypes. The response and insights gained directly influence the formulation of new designs with the final phrase being live performance playing the final design over many months. World renowned cellists such as Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Nicolas Altstaedt, Narek Hakhnazaryan and Jian Wang are currently performing with Il Cannone for Cello. During their own personal workshops they found their ideal strings amongst the same selection that is now available to you.
A ready-made toolbox of string options avoiding the expense and frustration of reliable trial and error. The cellist can modify and control the tone of his/her instrument in a way that is easy to predict. The core sound can be blended with an Il Cannone string combination(s) because all of the options are of a similar moderate tension and engineered to complement one another.

Both C and G strings have steel rope cores and tungsten windings, while both Ds and the "warm and broad" A have solid steel cores and stainless steel windings. The "direct and focused" A string uses a unique material that is currently being patented.

Our fractionals are purpose designed, perfectly proportioned versions of our full size Originals. For the first time ever, this set of strings enables uncompromised power and sound quality similar to that of full sized quality strings.
String Details
The same high grade steel cores wound for A and D in stainless steel flat wire, while G and C are based on concentric multi-stranded steel core wound with high grade tungsten. All supplied bespoke for 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8 size cello.
